I just think it's Kyoani's most subtle work yet.
It hearkens back to an era of film noir, where characters weren't just one dimensional caricatures. There's real depth in the characters, their motivations aren't always clear to the viewer, and it takes a bit of detective work to read between the lines. I think hidden behind the moeblob exterior lies the deepest Kyoani work yet.

They are too concerned with pleasing a very base otakuretard audience so unless they somehow happen to come upon source material which makes otakushits happy and is good, that's probably not going to happen.
