How's the manga? All I've ever seen is the anime but I hear the manga is very different.

It's totaly differrent, but the pacing is pretty bad because lots of characters and lolmonthly release.

The anime cut out a bunch of content and rewrote a lot of relationships and storylines for the sake of an anime-original ending.
The manga goes a lot more in depth into the politics of the fog, relationships with humans, etc, but it takes ages for new content due to so many different characters and branching story paths in addition to a monthly release schedule.
Binge reading what's been translated so far is fun, waiting for new chapters is not.

The point is that the fleet of fog is no longer enslaved by the Admirality code and rather follow Iona's ideology to have a free will to do whatever they want, the end result could be better for the humanity or worse though.

Frankly, I think the anime actually has a interesting set-up for an all original sequel.
With the power of the admiralty code and Yamato class broken, the seas might become separated into many territories as the most powerful of Fog(Like the BBs) become warlords as many of their weaker kin gather around them for leadership, do to the uncertainty and fear that free will brought them.

Actually, some of the stuff in the manga makes me wonder if parts of the second movie actually reflect the manga's future plotline.
For example, this part about how Shouzou was injured. I wonder if he's also just a mental model in the manga too, especially since Musashi has never shown her second mental model.

There is already the first chapter out, but it was by another group using Japanese -> Indonesian -> English translated scans.
I'm (or rather, /ak/ scans) is taking their work, which was somewhat poorly typeset and edited, and making a redux version which will begin the start of our project on the series.
I already have all 3 volumes of raws, just need a translator for everything past Chapter 3. The original guys were nice enough to give me all the material they could plus their translations of Chapter 2. I'll have Chapter 1 finished by the end of the weekend and uploaded on the wiki and Batoto.
