Trigun's anime is mainly faulty in that there is hardly any sakuga or even well-animated action sequences. When you read an action scene in the manga, you can practically feel the adrenaline and suspense of the battles. Still, both works have their own approach to the moral question of kill-or-not-kill, so it's best for you to watch and read both.
