With the way Togashi has written this arc so far, it seems like he wants to focus more on the Princes + Zodiac + Beyond's group and it's already feeling a bit cluttered.

I am a YYH and Togashi fan first and loved 1999 hxh but even at that time I knew it had inconsistent animation, inconsistent faces and unneccessary fillers. It wasn't even top tier in terms of animation during its time. I used to think the 1999 Chrollo vs Zoldyck fight was kinda better than the new one until I viewed it again and was surprised that it didn't look as good as my memories of it. That was the start of my disillusionment. Various 1999 scenes that I loved looked less good and surprisingly more dated at second viewing.
The 2011 version fixed a lot of my gripes with the 1999 one except for a few things that they took liberties on but overall it was a good improvement because it was basically the same story minus the fillers and had more consistent animation and designs.
The only things I'll admit that the 1999 version improved on was Chrollo's orchestra conducting, the injured bearcat cub filler and Hisoka's encounter with depowered Chrollo... and yeah ok the music was better.
But apparently 1999's "atmosphere" makes it superior as if that means fucking anything. Fuck you.
