Hey guys I just finished this show last night and I loved it. I'm pretty sure a lot of the symbolism flew over my head so I'm going to go back and re watch it some time and get a better grasp, but there is something that confuses me about the ending.

Why does Shichika not kill princess Hitei at the end. I had given some consideration that maybe it was because in the end she ultimately did not hate Togame and was doing only what she thought was right, but she was still indirectly responsible for Togame's death. I can understand his animosity for the Shogun who Togame was collecting the swords for, but he seemingly held far less for the woman who more or less killed Togame. Can someone inform me if im missing something here?
Also what were your general thoughts on the show?

It's because either one of them Togame and Hitei has to die, because there has to be only one witness.
unfortunately Hitei is faster to kill Togame than Togame to kill Hitei so that's it.
it all happened because of Shikizaki's Keikaku.
also Togame told shicika to say thank you to Hitei means they're not really on bad term, also hitei told shichika that she didn't hate her.
he killed the shogun because he made Togame wasting her life.

She didn't tell her bodygaurd to kill Togame, he killed Togame because Togame would have killed his Hime-sama in her quest for revenge.

For one, the message of the show would have lead to Togame's death either ways.
For two, like you said, Hitei did not hate Togame. Not only then, but Shichika did not want to kill her when he already killed Emonzaemon. Now they're friends and that's all that matters.

but she was completely aware of the fact that Emonzaemon had killed Togame. I assumed since she knew and the two had been building up to a final showdown that she had either issued the order or it was implied.
