I absolutely loved the ending. I mean, I would have preferred Togame living, but I suppose it was thematically appropriate for her to die since she was living her life for revenge. Only the characters that were just following the role set out in Shikizaki's scheme survived (Hitei, Shichika, that retainer girl that throws the deviant hilt). They wrapped up that part of their lives and lived on. Truly one of my favorite endings, watching it for the first time at the end of the year of airing is the most cathartic experience I've ever had.

The ending was fantastic, even though I watched the whole thing in three sessions (couldn't stop myself) I can still understand that feeling of catharsis you're talking about. And yeah, I shamefully forgot her name for thinking so highly of her but Tsuruga was great. Easily my favorite episode if we exclude the last one.
