Maybe I should stop trying to download best quality and just watch it on stream...
Precure is such an odd anime. In Japan it's an entry level show, but outside I get the impression that it only really draws in hardcore mahou shoujo fans and generally people who have seen a lot of other anime. It doesn't help that it's a rather difficult show to get into due to it's length, repetitive nature, and mostly childish writing/atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, I love this show, but how did other people get into it and stick with it?

I really liked little girl shows like Tokyo Mew Mew*, Full Moon and Shugo Chara, Kodocha, Nadja etc. and continued from there.
Strangely I have never seen Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura and Doremi.
But I will watch the new Sailor Moon once it's finished and Sakura and Doremi will come some times this year maybe.
Still have a backlog 100+ anime backlog to clear which will take 2-3 months
It's a shame not every little girl anime is getting subs though, and while most of them are easy enough to follow without subs their raws often don't have any seeders either.

On a sidenote, rewatching later episodes of Doki I think I liked early season more.

Once, in the SHT thread during the Kyoryuger, some anon mentioned that the SHT that week was just full of sacrifices, including Precure (I believe it was Doki finale at the time). I had known about this Precure anime, but never paid it much mind because lol little girl cartoon XD, but that comment made me a little curious so I got curious did some little research on the series, and decided to start with Smile because I found it to have the most fanart at the time.
I was a fan of toku, more specifically sentai, since childhood, so I'm kinda used to the format of Precure even before I started to watch it and I thought Smile was okay, nothing outstanding compared to Sentai and KR, but it wasn't as girly and childish as I had thought and the girls were cute and fun enough to keep me watching. Though I did find dragging through the season was a bit of a chore at times.
I then watch HC and got blown away and became a fan of the series since then. Yes, call me a Heartcasual all you want, but if it wasn't for HC, I probably wouldn't have bothered watching all other seasons.

I think in Japan it's only entry level because it's custom-made to appeal to (and be understandable by) pre-schoolers, so pre-school socializing and all. The fact that it's semi-watchable by older people is probably in part nostalgia and/or idealizing the kind of simplicity that comes with that sort of time. Things like pure hearts winning the day without having to fear a grimdark swerve, or the really basic moral lessons that are baked into kids shows, or character ideas that are made specifically for recognition & expectation as part of a much larger thing.
There's something to the way some people's path to a show like Precure is through having watched years of all sorts of anime, though. It's weird but maybe it's just nice to see something that isn't overly complicated with (ostensibly) adult themes. Sure there are times I'm happy to watch the unspoken expectations of a new relationship push and pull two people around after they've both been hurt because it hits kinda close to home, but sometimes I just want to watch a frilly pink girl punch and hug her way to making things daijoubu because it's simple and pure by comparison.
And there's relatively little pandering. I appreciate that.
