I have some magazines I buy myself that Japs don't upload. Having a centralized place to store everything so you don't have to go through shitty Jap DL sites is also nice, for translated stuff you can just go to the scanlator's site or read it online.

Raws can be surprisingly difficult to find. My guess is that japs don't really pirate manga because it's so cheap there, especially if you go to places like bookoff.

Really depends. Mag scans can be hell to find though, even for popular series. That's the reason many scanlators only do tanks.
