In fact Mai's age would match up perfectly to when she wished on the Dragonballs in Revival of F, that would make her 17 as well in Future Trunks' timeline when he initially time traveled back to the past, in the Year 784. Pan is born in the Year 779 for instance. That puts Mai at close to Trunks' age anyways, where he's 19-20 once he returns from the Cell Games.
If we're going with the fact that 17 years literally means 17 years after the current point in Super, then we're at least in Year 796 for Future Trunks' and he's at least 36 years old.

17 years still wouldn't be cell games. He traveled 20 years into the past initially, 2-3 years before he was born. So this establishes he's 17 years older than his baby self by the time the androids and cell games shit happens. He then goed back to his time, kills the androids, waits 3 years, then kills cell. So he is now in his early twenties when he kills cell.
If he were to travel 17 years, it would be 3 years after the cell games. Potentially 4 years after if black came a year after cell died.
A lot of people forgot, but Trunks also said that it took a year to make that fuel ("only that much fuel after a year?") which implies black had already been there for a year. So 4 years after cell games.
17 years doesn't mean cell games. The cell game images are just his only images of his friends from the past. That is why that flashback happened.

Both Trunks are born the same year, Goku just dies 6 months before the Androids show up in one timeline.
Trunks was 17 when he killed Frieza, he was also 17 during the Android Saga. And yes 17 does mean the Cell Games. 20 years ago he time traveled, 3 years later the Android/Cell Sagas happened. 20-3=17. That is 17 years ago. Again his age is not dependent on where he can travel too, he can travel anywhere, he'd still be 17.
And while yes, Bulma does say it takes a year, that means Black Goku has been there for a year, meaning if he traveled back 17 years from that point, it'd be 1 year after the Cell Games. While yes it s a possibility that some time has passed between Imperfect Cell and Black Goku it can't have been much time solely due to how Mai looks when she made her wish in that timeline before the Android Saga.
Now with that said, Trunks is older than her. Even if she made the wish when Frieza arrived on Earth, that would make her 20 years old when Future Trunks initially time traveled back. Trunks was 19 when he time traveled back from the Cell Games, but this can't be possible as she made her wish 3 years after that fact right before the Androids showed up, so she's 17 and he's 19.
Considering the year difference between Future Trunks' timeline and Super's timeline now, Mai's age would surprisingly match up perfectly. Kid Trunks and Mai are both 12 in Super's timeline, Future Trunks' timeline is 5 years later, making them both 17.

I won't lie, I'm liking it. Future Trunks is my favorite character, and teen Mai got me hard. Killing off Bulma and Mai was kind of too much though. I wanted to see more of future Bulma, she's so cool.
They will probably revive them later with the dragon balls anyway, but still.
Overall the episode was great, one of the best from Super so far, by far. Let's hope they won't fuck Black up, the idea of a "black goku" seems like some Shadow the hedgehog bullshit, but he could also end up being a pretty cool villain.
