While it was definitely an asspull, this move only worked because of the unusual circumstances of that fight. Hisoka's body didn't receive enough damage to kill him. Hisoka was knocked unconscious, and because of the nature of Chrollo's final attack he was buried under corpses, and then he died of suffocation. It is a death with minimal body damage. Usually in HxH a battle ends with a body gruesomely crushed beyond any hopes of recovery. Hisoka wouldn't recover from that. The only thing Hisoka can do is a cardiac massage, he can't actually heal lethal injuries.

There are many powerful girls in HxH and the physically weakest female (Komugi) is actually one of the strongest mentally, to the point that she could influence the physically strongest male character.
Aside from that, Togashi is one of the few battle shounen mangaka who does not seem to think female characters are worthless unless they're conventionally attractive or there as a joke. To any regular girl that should be more reassuring than some unrealistically super powered Mary Sue no human being could actually live up to.

Like a few more chapters of exposition about who's going to the Dark Continent and how almost every character is gonna be on the boat when the succession war starts. Then the Hisoka-Chrollo fight pops up and here we are. The Dark Continent arc is only like 18 chapters long right now.
