Who is your favoritefemaledirector?
Some relevant ones:
>Makoto Moriwaki (PriPara, Milky Holmes pre-2013)
>Chiaki Kon (When They Cry, Sailor Moon Crystal III, Nodame Cantabile Paris + Finale)
>Ai Yoshimura (Yahari S1, Ao Haru Ride, upcoming Cheer Boys!!)
>Soubi Yamamoto (Meganebu) <-- only 26
>Mitsue Yamazaki (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun)
>Mitsuko Kase (Young Black Jack, Ristorante Paradiso)
>Noriko Takao (Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls)
>Naoko Yamada (K-ON!, Tamako, Euphonium, upcoming Koe no Katachi) <-- only 31
>Hiroko Utsumi (Free!)
>Rie Matsumoto (Kyousougiga, Kekkai Sensen) <-- only 31
>Sayo Yamamoto (Michiko to Hatchin, Lupin III: Woman Named Fujiko Mine, upcoming Yuri on Ice)
>Atsuko Ishizuka (Hanayamata, No Game No Life, Prince of Stride, Pet Girl of Sakurasou)
Naoko Yamada and Sayo Yamamoto are the best.
Rie Matsumoto is good, but she doesn't seem to have a strong visual identity and her last couple of works fell apart.
Hiroko Utsumi is also good, but she has incredibly shitty tastes
Atsuki Ishizuka sadly never works with good material
What happened to Noriko Takao was a tragedy
Ishizuka because I fucking like colors.
>Yamaka
>Euphonium
That was Ishihara.
>>142643247
Yamakan doesn't work at KyoAni anymore.
>>142643247
Yamada was the series director for Euphonium and the difference is pretty clear when you compare it to other series Ishihara handled on his own.
>>142643288
Yeah, that was a typo.
>>142643407
I didn't know that, but yeah, you're right, things like the lighting effects in Eupho have a Yamada feel to them.
>>142643407
>doing KnK and Euphonium at the same time
Madwoman.
>>142642781
All the female directors that had worked at Ghibli.
Matsumoto, without a doubt. Her really clicks with me. I'm just waiting for her to make a masterpiece.
>>142643888
Her style*. Fuck.
>>142642781
Most of those are pretty garbage.
>>142645303
So who do you like?
>>142645476
Male directors.
>>142642781
Moriwaki and Yamada. I want more Milky Holmes
>>142642781
>Soubi Yamamoto (Meganebu)
>only 26
Damn she's pretty good. Megane-bu is so good.
>>142642781
Yamada
Yamada is my favorite director period.
>>142645523
Faggot.
>>142643888
>Matsumoto, without a doubt. Her really clicks with me. I'm just waiting for her to make a masterpiece.
I want her to do Biscuit Hammer
Naoko Yamada is my goddess who can do no wrong.
I also like Yamamoto and, to an extent, Matsumoto as well. Choi is really good too, I hope she's doing one of those Science Saru movies.
>>142646280
I just want to get Biscuit Hammer.
Naoko Yamada is the greatest human being on the planet
Ishizuka and Matsumoto are alright
Everyone else listed looks pretty shit desu
Do indie directors count?
I really like Yoko Kuno but she's only doing illustration these days.

Oh I love this music video.
Deai Kotomi's my new favorite. I loved her work on Mitchiko to Hatchin and Silver Spoon s2 but boy did she drop the ball with the Rolling Girls. Still looking forward to her next project which is the new season of Natsume Yuujinchou. Hopefully she redeems herself from that abomination.
Yamada is probably the objectively best name on that list, but Matsumoto is the one I want to be the best. She just needs to get paired with someone who can tell a story that doesn't fall to pieces in the final act.
>>142643888
>>142646280
Agreed on all counts.
>>142643407
Yamada does microjob and Ishihada does macrojob when it comes to Eupho. He lets Yamada did whatever she liked.
While it's clear Eupho is different than usual Ishihara's anime, but Eupho still scream Ishihara's while also scream Yamada's.
Or else, you're just yuyucow, fuck off.
>>142647592
I don't get it, why are you butthurt?
Yamada
Yamada, but only because she's cute
>>142643136
Basically you have it here. These are the correct opinions. Matsumoto could be really good if she gets the right project. Kyousougiga before the TV series was all brilliant.
>>142647428
>Matsumoto is the one I want to be the best
This.
>>142653978
The TV series was great too, despite falling apart a bit at times, later on.
>>142646918
Oooo, nice find
>>142654240
>despite falling apart a bit at times, later on.
No kidding.
>>142647282
>but boy did she drop the ball with the Rolling Girls
Frankly, I blame the screenwriter
Higurashi was pretty well directed I thought, especially the OP
shame DEEN rushed it so fucking hard they ruined most of the "what the fuck" moments
>>142654717
>Blaming the screenwriter
>acting like a director can do no wrong
>>142646918
insane camera work
>>142642781
Sayo Yamamoto. Special mention for Ikuko Itoh even if she just did animation, it was memorable.
>>142647592
The interviews show that they split the work so that Ishihara handles the management part of the anime and Yamada handles the story and artistic part of the anime. Both worked on both things, but those were their primary focuses. They mention that they were both asked to direct it together and that when they split the work, they just came up with a name for Yamada's role.
>>142643136
What happened to Takao?
>>142647282
>>142654717
According to ANN she only did the storyboards for episodes one and two, which explains a lot. (Episode 8 was Tetsuo Hirakawa)
>>142653135
She looks like a mushroom
>>142662137
Cute mushroom!
>>142662137
She must be afungi
>>142653135
>you will never have cute daily-life adventures around Kyoto with your director-fu
>>142662688
Sounds like a light novel.
>>142662688
>mfw my director-fu is only a few years older than me
>mfw when she's already one of the biggest names in anime and I'm a a skinny gajin loser with a shitty job
>mfw I will never have cute daily-life adventures around Kyoto with her
>>142642781
>Atsuko Ishizuka
yeah she makes fun shows
>>142643849
I don't think she's gonna work on S2
>>142666049
She was confirmed to be back as series director recently.
Moriwaki is the best comedy director of the last twenty years
Might as well post Fujita
>>142666944
I await the day they give her a K-On! to direct and she takes the world by storm like Yamada-senpai.
>>142668224
