Sure, but the catch here is that most, if not all, of the development is strictly focused on their relationship, very much unlike most shounens.
That makes their romance feel believable and not forced, which I'd say is the biggest strenght of the series.

I actually disagree on the necessity of the time skip. Power level in this show has always been so absurdly defined by the situation and seemingly dependant on will power. If you have the resolve to not lose, you don't. At least for the MC. I mean he, with a little of her, just defeated the 4th most powerful enemy. And his rank as number 4 was established before w/e absurd gains were received from absorbing #9. Sure this feat was post time skip but 2 years is nothing to these immortal demons. My thought is that in the world of the show, they're sort of like a half secret half well known organization. Like your not gonna talk about them in passing lik e you'd talk about the police or something, but since the kegare problem is pretty frequent its not like its tightly under wraps.
