Kayo was forced to accept it and move on, and in time she seems to have coped and found happiness by reaching out to Satoru's friends so they could grieve together. I think the end was at least better than in his former series but he really never plans end before he starts a series and always seem to stop caring at some point. The final volume of that Island thing was fucking terrible and he just explained every open question on the last few pages. Like how the "murdered" child wasn't actually dead and the teachers (one of them was a killer and the others worked with him) were speaking the truth when they said that he was just transferred into a hospital and that there was a reason that the others couldn't call him by phone or some shit. Or the goddamn explanation about the bloody words-room which was actually done by not-Kenya when he sleep-walked.

The fact that his mother stayed on for 15+ years is a testament to her love for her son; the fact that she kept Kayo from doing so is a testament to her parental instincts of what would be best for Kayo. Expecting a young girl to do what Sachiko did is ludicrous and patently unfair, especially considering the main reason Kayo was attached to him was due to nobody else giving a damn about her before Satoru.
Letting go of Satoru let her open up her horizons and realize that other people can also care for you, if you let them. It let her get over the trauma of having a childhood friend suddenly be taken away. Whereas if she'd stayed, she'd probably still be just as aloof, mixed with a healthy dose of mental issues stemming from not moving past Satoru's accident.But /a/ doesn't care that a mother saw the long, painful and difficult road she'd have to take in order to keep caring for Satoru and was unwilling to subject a 9 year old child to that, they just care that Satoru was "cheated" (despite his intentions being entirely altruistic and not aimed at making her fall for him) out of having a girl wait 15 years for him to wake up.
