Love Story, it had an actual conclusion. Midori was handled with grace, Mochi and Tamako became much fuller characters, only downside is not a lot of Choi and Shiori leaving.
That said, themomepisode and this [https://youtu.be/_rnJk3RRIRc] were pretty great. Series also has Choibutt and an excellent ED, plus Dad's band. Tamako really has great music as a whole.

Its easy to see how Love Story has more general appeal though. Market fits my niche perfectly.

That's the appeal, for me. Kyoani created a vibrant world in Market, where every character felt like they had some story to tell.
The overarching plot in Market didn't really feel like it mattered and was just an excuse to introduce Dera and Choi, who was to show how open and welcome the market was to newcomers. It was a conclusion for the sake of conclusion because having a plot just detracts from a slice of life show.

That was probably because we got a movie instead of a second cour. 5k isn't exactly a runaway hit for an original.
We still got some meaningful development of the shopkeepers, namely the afro guy losing since the girl he liked got married.
The episode where Tamako and friends create a haunted house and the shopkeepers keep setting up preventive measures against the "ghost" is probably my favorite episode.

I always felt that long SoL were always better than shorter SoL because the very nature of SoL is about how the characters change over time and their interaction with each other and how they're able to overcome various problems and hardships. With long SoLs there is much more time for the characters to develop and adapt. I feel like short ones compress a story into too short of a time frame and it makes for unrealistic and odd scenes and interactions.

Not implying it was bad, but it feels lopsided and personally that makes it harder to get into to.
For example I thought Chuunibyou was a better love story since Rikka and the MC bounce off each other quite a lot, and they learned about themselves as they interacted. I never got that feeling from Tamako and Mochizou.
Still a good movie though, I didn't hate it. Yamada's direction is flawless.
