Also theyve commited way too much crimes for their cause to ever be redeemable in the eyes of both the characters and most of the readers.

A "cursed history" implies they're at war, and BR are soldiers doing their duty. That's understandable, but I also see where the hate stems from. The edge against them hurts me at times because Isayama sufficiently showed that they're human and they broke from the guilt in their own ways, but then when they actually kill off the main characters, it just feels wrong.

He deserves whatever he gets at this point and he's accepted it along with having to kill humanity. Before, while it's clear he had terrible self esteem, he did pity himself and RA for their situation since "someone had to do it".
The difference is now he understands there is no point to worry over right and wrong and that he's doing a mission that he was assigned and nothing more.
I'd like to see how the 'new' Bert handles the situation he's in now. If he reverts back, it be pretty disappointing I think.
