Tons of abuse from her mother and bullying at school. In order to find some escapism for all that, she began developing imaginary friends and eventually a fondness for magic. Since her problems persisted, what originally started as regular escapism fantasies turned to delusions. These delusions got worse since her condition was empowered by people on Rokkenjima (namely Yasu (another fucked-up individual) and her cronies (a stupid butler, a stupid maid and a stupid doctor who fed Yasu's delusions due to a misplaced sense of loyalty, instead of seeking for professional help)).
Maria, Jessica and Gohda's deaths were the real tragedies in Umineko, everyone else had it coming, one way or another.
