I came with the idea it's Togashi's manga, so I started automatically comparing it to YYH and found the characters less endearing (still do, especially Gon-Yusuke) and the battles less explosive and emotional, otherwise very good, I definitely liked Hisoka right away

IwatchedYYH a few years ago and loved it, and after looking for anotheranimetowatchto get my fix, I found out that the author of YYH had another successful series that's even better. Rest is history.

I had a sneak peek of the 99 anime and one day over 10 years ago decided I was mood for some light hearted adventure (it looked that way to me).

Was genuinely surprised how atmospheric and fun it was. Enjoyed the mind games of the Hunter exam and overall the weird light dark atmosphere of it, the introduction of nen system was a complete surprise for me and piqued my mind. And of course 99 Yorkshin was really great and I enjoyed the fact that Gon and Killua didn't stand a chance against PT.At the time I also enjoyed GI and the JRPG base of it.

And it'd be at least 10 years before he actually listens to this tape, but even during that time, there are things that will never change and he is what he is. I used to go on MangaStream to read One Piece. This was maybe 6 years ago. They did weekly HxH scans as well and although I thought it was some sort of kiddy series I decided to click on it out of curiosity.
It happened to be the Gon vs Pitou fight. When I saw that double spread of adult Gon smashing Pitou's face, I got chills even though I had no idea what was going on. Marathoned it on the spot. I was so glad there was such a great HxH community on /a/. Too bad it's atrocious now.

I love how detailed and refined yet quick and dynamic the storytelling is. It's such a rapid fire execution of intelligently composed scenes that few other manga stimulate me now. I really enjoy the atmosphere and the logic that goes into most scenes. Togashi must have had a near complete mental storyboard when he wrote York Shin, GI and CA. If not, then he must be one of the most talented artists to ever have lived.
Also I know people don't like Togashi's art but personally I'm a big fan of it. It may not be the most refined but he really knows how to panel and draw visual metaphors and character expressions. I love shit like when the look in Killua's eyes changes for an instant when he kills Ikalgo's host or when a small inkblot represents the birth of doubt in a character's mind.
