This. Haifuri was a trainwreck that can't decide on what it is. it just has too many serious things going on in the background while we see cute sailors doing cute things in the foreground. The contrast of the two is weird as fuck.
I don't particularly care about the SOL or plot. I just enjoy the zany ship battles. They should have come up with at least 12 scripts for non-lethal battles before they started making this. This was the best episode in weeks.

It wants to have cute girls doing cute things, and it wants to have cute girls doing serious things, and it wants to have naval battles, and it wants to have weird mind-control things, and it wants to have political intrigue. But it only has twelve twenty-minute episodes to do it all, and by including everything it just dilutes itself into mediocrity.

They've had some breaks. Look, it's the 26th. They set sail probably at the start of the school year on the 1st. There's been plenty of downtime.
That said, they appear not to really have had any shore leave since the beginning, and all the landfall that they've made have been random rocky outcroppings in the middle of the ocean. And much of the downtime that they have had has been spent making emergency repairs or being stinky.
For that matter, they haven't come across a supply or repair ship yet, and it hasn't yet reached time for the Harekaze to rendezvous with the supply ship as mentioned last episode (if they haven't already steamed far off-course with the rescue and the Hiei engagement). And no repairs means saltwater bidets and no baths.

The problem isn't the rats, it's that there's been no real tension in their situation for ages. They should have doubled down on the isolation and being on the run from their country, not solved the ominous mystery and resolved the framing attempt an episode or two after they came up. Even with practically the same SoL-and-battles mix as the first few episodes, losing that context has made these last episodes much less interesting.
