I've never understood why Hermit Purple is considered an "unfitting" or "underwhelming" stand for Joseph. To me, there is no other stand better tailored for it's specific user than Hermit Purple.
JoJo's fighting-style has always involved two things:
1: Snaring and trapping his opponents with ropes, then giving them a heart-stopping hamon wave.
2: Reading his environment and his enemy to come with a fool-proof way to beat them.
And voila, he is given a stand that does exactly that, but better.

Exactly. It's mostly because it's underwhelming compared to the Stands the other Crusaders got and because animeonlies love Jodeb adn hi ebin tircks xDDDD so they wanted him to still be relevant. It let's him do his rope tricks and also control the ropes like they're part of his body, and because of that they conduct all his Hamon. And because the vines are a Stand no vampire except Dio can break out of them since they don't have their own Stand. If he'd developed it earlier in life he'd be absolutely unstoppable against undead and the Pillar Men would have been ashes before even leaving the chamber they slept in. Only problem is he developed HP way too late in life.

That and it plays into Joseph's tricky fighting style.
Joseph had always been the weakest ripple user, and pretty much had shit stacked against him from the beginning. Yet he managed to turn what he had at his disposal into something that could take down aztec super vampires.
Same thing with Hermit Purple. Early in the story, all it did was break cameras and take pictures. he couldnt even fight with it. by the end of the story, he turned it into a ripple infused barbed wire grappling hook. He actually was able to go toe to toe with other stand users, even though he had arguably a 'non combat' stand.
Hermit Purple is brilliant. Its not a magic punch ghost, but that wouldnt suit joseph. joseph's strength was always his ability to make due with what he had. Hermit Purple is weak, but its potential is massive, and that is just what Joseph likes to work with.
I mean given the choice, which do you think Joseph would choose, a power that was straight forward, strong, but has no potential for growth, like say plain Super Strength. Or something as bizarre as ripple conducting future telling vines that are not very strong.

Also, hamon only working on vampires is false. If a normal human gets a moderately strong hamon wave it would've the same effect as jumping into a pool with a toaster.
That's why when Suzie Q was possesed by Esidisi, Joseph and Caesar had to shock her from opposite sides: So their Hamon waves would cancel each other and wouldn't give her a massive heart attack.

What difference would it make that he is a vampire? Stands can only be defeated by stands, that is true. That's EXACTLY why Joseph started conducting hamon through Hermit Purple. If he shocks a non-vampire stand user's stand with HP, then the heart-stopping hamon would be reflected to the user.
This did not work with Empress because A) it was a parasite Stand and B) He shocked it with his hand, not with Hermit.

. I still would argue that Terunosuke does not and should not receive the same punishment as that Angelo, they just don't belong the same bracket to have his life-long to potentially eternal prison justified.
The "Koichi" he threw out was proven to be a dummy, as after Josuke was captured he immediately stepped on the piece of paper to destroy it, in an attempt to recover his ego from the shock Josuke delivered to him through his last speech. He didn't openly attack Yuuya, he simply presented him a challenge which both parties knew it involves countless layers of deadily traps, Yuuya accepted it even when knowing the risk. That was no foul, it was just a stand fight and totally justifiable. Also he captured Josuke's mother without any intention to harm her in the slightest, and only using her to serve as a stepping stone to bring out Josuke's fear quicker in the most efficient manner in terms of both time and casualty (as he would otherwise need to capture literally everyone other than Josuke's mum to really give him a mental punch).

I like to compare this guy to Rohan and say that not only they possess the same personality, they also had wronged Josuke in a mirrored fashion. Yet their treatments vary vast in difference for whatever reason.
Rohan also showed no interest with the general moral of life as he viewed people nothing more than "materials". Rohan also acted like an egoist arsehole (still is but not as much), is artistic by nature and is very obssessed with what he likes inside people which is their experiences. Rohan, like Terunosuke both possess incredibly dangerous stand abilities that involves controlling people as they are both control freaks to different degrees, and both showed no signs of self control when first introduced. Rohan also captured someone who Josuke holds dear as hostages, being Koichi and later, Okuyasu. Rohan also used hostages as part of his combat tatics, conditioning Josuke during the encounter. Rohan also harmed the hostages in a few ways, brainwashing and nearly killing Koichi by tearing his pages out for self interests, as well as setting Okuyasu on self immolation. Rohan also went out of his way to make Josuke mad when he was sure of his victory, like Terunosuke which in this case, by insulting his hairstyle multiple times.
Yet with all that, all Rohan got in return was a beat up so bad he had to change his weekly release schedule into monthly while he was hospitalised, which was nothing too major. In contrast, this guy got the "book prison", it just doesn't seem to be right, or anywhere close to it.

As cocky, apathetic and obssessive this guy may be, by analysing his abilities we would know he does not go out of his way to harm others unnecessarily as his ability is very conditional to himself while it possesses no actual combat strength and when he does, he lets them go just as easy as opening a piece of folded paper. He sought to minimise the amount of people involved in his obssession trip and although he could also kill his captive as easy as ripping paper into pieces, he only reserves that as the last resort.
He had been overboard just like how he really screwed over that taxi driver hard, but he had realised it by the end. As obssessive he may be I have no doubt that after a solid beat down he would learn "constraint" properly just like almost all antagonists who had wronged Josuke in the past, especially Rohan.
Yet he was given 0 space to redeem himself and was sent straight to capital punishment. Unlike Rohan who had done exactly the same things to Josuke yet didn't get him riled up as badly, all because one of the people that got involved was Josuke's mum. Josuke is just too much of a mama's boy I swear. Sure I would be really pissed too if someone were to drag her into a fight, but a comeback like that? I just don't think so, I don't think Josuke would really go that far as a character even if he was not actually in his right mind at that time either, as he barely did that much to Rohan previously.
Terunosuke could have been an interesting side character for later story development, dunno why Araki just hates him so much he had to practically torture him to the end of time, while making a joke out of it.

The archetypes are always boringly predictable, any fights are laughably simple and tame compared to JoJo's creativity and intensity, same which goes for the humor. Yeah it's pretty good. It starts off a bit slow, but it gets really damn great. Characters have a great variety of abilities, *somewhat* like jojo.
But what I really like about it is the scale of the characters powers. They will introduce you some powerful guys, and they will still be powerful (much) later on. MC won't just go full bullshit and beat them with the power of friendship on the next arc.

Not him, but they're closer to standard shonen battles than JoJo but the abilities are very creative. It takes a while until 'Nen' (the ability system they use) is fully introduced but it's pretty good. Some fights are pretty short but there are some longer ones too and most of the big ones don't disappoint.

It's always better to get caught up rather than wait for it to finish. JJL is better read monthly rather than all at once, Araki has actually paced it like a monthly manga and you need time to reflect on shit for it to fully sink in since it's a mystery story. Because of thay it's also structured pretty differently from the other Parts and we actually don't know who the main antagonist is yet (though it's bee narrowed down to 2 most likely characters currently). Plus the current arc is excellent, and the Stands are probbly the best they've been in years. The designs and powers are all really good and hard to fault except for personal taste. Also Araki's writing has improved heaps to the point I actually care about what happens next and want to know more. Vitamin C is best Stand by the way.
