The SS arc wasn't filled with jobbers though, all of these new characters had their little conflicts here and there and it was actually interesting. They only became jobbers after hueco mundo and after that it went downhill to the bullshit asspull formula that bleach has been using lately.

I'm not insane in remembering that series starting off really well?
It had a nice premise, then they fucked it up. I think it suffered from the fact that we were shown too much of that spirit ghost city and too many characters.
The thing about Bleach is (from what I remember) is that they are really good at giving a villain a good backstory and making you care once they kill that villain, but they are completely inable in killing protagonists, someone always steps in 3 seconds before their death and it ends on a cliffhanger.

Well, that's not too bad by itself, the later arcs could still have been written better.
However, in retroperspective it's funny how the Arrancar were introduced so early, and how they were probably supposed to be the sole main villains originally.
Aizen didn't become the BBEG until after his death, so Kubo made up A LOT along the way.
Apprearently he did plan a Quincy arc from the beginning. Hell, maybe Yhwach was supposed to have Aizen's role originally.

Kubo did have a plan. We were supposed to have a lot more SoL stuff. Remember all those superfluous human classmates? Supposed to get development and powers like Chad and Orihime. But the editors wanted to get to the shinigami and pushed Kubo to introduce them quicker. Then we were apparently supposed to be clashing with SS for a while, as Uryu and Kurotsuchi were supposed to have a series of escalating battles resulting in Mayuri's death and Uryu avenging his grandpa. Gin and Kisuke were supposed to be the villains and everything would have been dope as fuck. Then Kubo went Shyamalan with his Aizen twist and threw out all his plans and started flying by the seat of his pants.
The series had so much potential. But executive meddling and Kubo being Kubo threw out any chance we had of a good story. Now it's just a wild ride to the end.

Yeah I think once the story entered the SS, Kubo had to account for the hierarchy of soul reapers, their fucking powers, backstories, etc. It worked but after saving rukia it became sort of a formula for him. We can only take so much dumps of new characters in place of actual plot before we get annoyed and drop it, as many people did.
