The only trope I think I always hate is the child of destiny/MC's parents are actually godlike shit that is a staple of all battle shounen. It bothers me so much, that it almost inspires me to someday write an action-adventure comic myself just to fucking subvert it and show people how ass-backwards it is.
Is it supposed to be inspiring to kids when the main character finds out that his loser father is actually Jesus fucking Christ and he was predestined to defeat the big bad? A smart kid would - no, should - be disgusted with that revelation, because it means there was always one dude in an entire world full of dudes who was meant for greatness, and everybody else is a minor character to The Him Show. And for a lot of kids reading comic books, they probably already feel like that's true, but the main character isn't themselves, it's some popular or rich kid, or star athlete or someone who bullies him.
It's especially jarring because many of these series claim, sometimes more than anything else, that hard work pays off and blood doesn't matter/families are chosen. Naruto and One Piece are the absolute worst offenders of this, and I actually love One Piece. Naruto's whatever. I just turn my brain off whenever anyone talks about Dragon or the Will of D or Roger or...
