Honey and Clover helped me look at relationships more maturely, and was a refreshing take on romance, primarily because it was similar to life: people have more little tragedies than triumphs.
It was also one of the few series that made me bawl. Episode Six's last part remains to be one of the most memorable anime scenes I've seen.

Much like his Panty & Stocking episode (the one with the depressed salaryman), Paradise Kiss was a great showcase of what Osamu Kobayashi is truly good at. It's a shame people only judge him by his Gurren episode, he's much better at stylized yet down-to-earth settings than shonen action shows.
