An anime that is able to make you feel cathartic while drawing you into it's world and story is a good anime. "Comfy" is a positive thing.
Something can be comfy and still have numerous positive aspects, they're not mutually exclusive.
Sure I could see the word being misused, but I've never seen it personally. "Comfy" is just a word used to describe a feeling, if a show made you feel sad, or angry, or happy, then it's done something right by making you feel that way.
