Now Subaru heads the allies to face Betelgeuse and the Cult of the Witch.
They lose several times, and everyone killed, but each time Subaru learns more about the Bishop and plans his tactics. The insane Bishop has the power to manifest invisible "Hands of God" that can kill anyone without them ever seeing them.
After many bloody battles, Subaru and his allies is victorious and Betelgeuse is killed.
It's the best possible outcome, or so it seemed.
Subaru wins back the trust of Emilia, but learns a shocking truth... she doesn't remember who Rem is.
He rushes to go see Rem, to find her comatose and no one remembering her.
Rem and Cruche has been attacked by Bishop of Gluttony. Rem was eaten and "erased" from the world, whereas Cruche's own memory was lost (others remember her fine).

Subaru has never worked a single day in his life. He is now in a world where he has no connections and no marketable skills. He cannot cook, clean, garden, or do anything decently. The twins spend a lot of time teaching him very basic things. It is absolutely not their job to teach him how to read, they do it out of sympathy. It is absolutely not their job to comfort their extremely suspicious guest while he is writhing like a madman in his sleep. They do it anyways out of sympathy.
In all timelines where he is killed by them, it is because his paranoia made them suspicious and then he takes a final dangerous action that pushes them over the edge.
Timeline 1 - He does nothing suspicious. But does smell of the witch. Rem/Ram have nothing to do with his death. He dies to other causes.
Timeline 2 - He is now extremely suspicious, knows things he should not know, and he is heavier with the witch's scent. He takes the final action of advancing towards Emilia's room at night while vomiting. Later you will learn that there is a group called the witch cult and that some of their disciples also display that exact same behavior. While to us, we know he is sick, to them he is a threat.
This is a universe where people have special powers and can kill each other in instants if allowed close.
Timeline 3 - Even more suspicious, even more witch scent. He pretends to leave the mansion, but instead, picks a high vantage point where he can see Emilia's room and holds a knife in his hand.
Timeline 4 - Barricades himself in his room and other than crazy rants does nothing else. His appearance coincides with Rem's death and his apology is basically an admission.

Rosewaal basically forces Emilia to undergo a trial she has no way of overcoming without Subaru's help.
Emilia constantly mentally breaks in this arc.
There's also loads of other fun things. Like dealing with the mansion (Beatrice) getting attacked while they're away, a swarm of Gluttony rabbits (imagine a locust swarm, but of rabbits that are super deadly and can't be killed unless you kill them all at the same time) that need dealt with.
Not to mention Rosewaal himself clearly being an enemy.
Subaru gets to see a what-if segment of what might have happened (the person showing him these doesn't know if they're parallel worlds or really just the world calculating what would have happened) after he dies in certain loops.
Like Emilia bawling over Subaru killing himself after finding out Rem was in a coma, screaming WHY WHY would you do this to me.
Or Ram and Beatrice shocked that Subaru jumped off a cliff and killed himself.

The one time where Sloth possesses Subaru and dies a very gruesome death while keeping Sloth trapped is a good what-if.

Subaru & co heads to a lake city to negotiate a deal with the mayor. He has a precious stone that Emilia can use to bring back Puck from his sleep. (the gem that housed Puck was destroyed in arc 3 or 4, I can't remember)
All five of the queen candidates gather in the city for... I can't remember why, but I believe Anastasia summoned them.
But this posed a serious national security, having all of them at one spot... and of course, the Witch Cult arrive to terrorize the city. One of the things they were looking for was a copy of the Book of Wizdom that belonged to Roswaal and now in Subaru's team's possession.
Anyways the whole arc becomes a massive war between the Witch Cult vs everyone we've been introduced to so far.

There are several incredibly strong powerhouses on Subaru's side, but they're still mostly in massive disadvantage (with the exception of Reinhart, but he can't be everywhere at the same time..) because FOUR Bishops leads this terror attack.
Remember, just a single Bishop caused so much trouble and misery in arc 3. Here we have four of them, and they're all hax as hell.
Just like Betelgeuse, each of the Bishops have horrifying abilities straight out of horror films. I'll get into that in another post.
Do we have a total death count for Subaru for the anime, LN, and WN? I'm sure the WN is probably impossible to discern, but maybe we can do the LN and anime at least. He uses the communication tower to reach out to the whole city, encouraging them that help is here.
He then splits up the team to combat the four bishops, and to put a stop to their destruction of the city.
On the cult side we have:
Sirius Romanée-Conti, Bishop of Wrath
Self-claimed wife of Betelgeuse. Covered in bandages ad dragging chains, she is overly excited maniac and when she senses her loved one inside Subaru, she first thinks her love had come back.
She has the ability to impose her emotions and her physical state with everyone around her, instantly forcing normal citizens to be empathetic to her and she uses this to brainwash and control them. They also take the same damage she receives, effectively turning them all into hostages.
This causes several deaths for Subaru, including times when he was driven mad from her influence.
Sirius is adept in combat, uses her chains and controls fire to fight.
She was eventually faced off by Priscilla and Liliana the bard. Liliana used her abilities to neutralize Sirius's empathy powers, and Priscilla defeated her with a flaming sword.
Capella Emerada Rugunika - Bishop of Lust
The worst Bishop of them all, according to the author.
She's neither insane nor have some zealous belief she hangs onto. Rather, she's purely evil and malicious.
She can transform herself and others to any form she desires, and loves to change people into something to make them suffer. She's also got dragon blood running in her veins, and uses that to poisons Subaru & Cruch.

First he only had the dark mist spell as his only skill, and he overused it until he lost the "inner gate" needed to do magic. The mist saved his ass a few times, but it's broken and gone now.
By killing Betelgeuse, Subaru gained that Sloth's power. Unfortunately he can only manifest like one invisible hand and land a single hit at a time. He also can't release a wave of sloth like the Bishop could.
He got drenched in dark dragon blood which burned and poisoned Cruche. The only useful thing he got out of it is transferring that blood from her to himself in order to save her.
He then gained Bishop of Greed's power, which is to become immune to any harm while he stops his heart. Obviously Subaru can't make any use of this ability yet.
His only consistently useful ability is him becoming master to Betty, but due to his limited power she can't really use hers to the fullest either.
On top of being not-so-useful, many of these powers are tainted with evilness of the Witch.
