Rule of cool ect
On a serious note, power armor on the other hand is most useful up to the point it becomes prohibitive to enter buildings. A power armor larger than this but still small enough to navigate tight corridors too narrow for a tank to navigate is also useful. Giant mech suits are dumb, full stop, no mechanical engineer or flag officer has ever argued in favor of them, only dumb weeaboo, so you don't have to worry about DARPA getting in their heads to build one, they know better. Dumb weeaboo will weeaboo, for the sophisticated we have shit like strike witches.
>>
>>141435295
Where could a mech go that a modern tank couldn't? Most mechs are wider than tanks, they would have trouble moving down a street without knocking shit over, they can't go into wooded areas at all, they'd do a bit better on mountains or something maybe.

Mechs have a lot more surface area per given volume therefore for the same weight, they will be much less armored. Mechs also have higher ground pressure therefore is worse in soft terrain.

Using the same technology, one could replace the legs with treads and the hands with guns. This reduces overall complexity (and therefore cost and maintenance), and is a much more useful weapon.

However, it suffers from a fatal flaw: the toy for it looks really stupid, so nobody is going to buy that. A giant robot that looks like a demon samurai is clearly a better idea.

Tanks cant carry beam weapons in UC as the reactors required for them are too large. If you were to upscale a tank in order to use beam weaponry it would be just as impractical if not more so than mobilesuits, especially since due to a tank basically being a box your much more likely to hit the reactor and turn the thing into a nuke when compared to a mobile suit where there are various limbs you can disable to effectively kill it with out it turning into a nuke

Well when you completely throw out reality, I suppose you can maintain any fallacy. In any realistic situation where real-world physics applies, a bipedal mech would be useless as it became larger in size, as its mass would have to increase as well.

And when I mentioned an AT weapon, I was talking about any shoulder-fired system such as an RPG7 or Carl Gustav.
>>
>>141437129
>>Thinking that a mobile suit will no longer be a thread if you take out a leg joint

First you meant threat you nigglet.

Second a mecha without a leg joint will be crawling mecha.

>Thinking a gun would be accurate enough to hit the joints

They are you nigger. A sabot round would snipe the shit out of a mecha.

>Thinking mud is just a bottomless pit of quicksand and the weight of the mobile suit won't just disperse the viscus portion of the mud.

Nigger, it doesn't need to be too deep to fuck with the mecha's mobility AND stability.

You have to choose between mobility, armor and firepower. A realistic mecha only has mobility and some firepower(with a need of constant resupply).
>>
>>141437281
You hold it yourself and drive closer
>>
>>141437211
>a tank basically being a box
No, a tank is basically a piece of armor tightly clamped around what innards it needs.
At the same amount of armor, a tank would be better armored than a mobile suit and have fewer weak spots to take advantage of. It would be more difficult to turn into a nuke than the MS.
Tanks for ground warfare, and planes for aerial warfare.

You make it sound like the world can't support 58.1 metric tons and it would cause the land it walks on to collapse. The Ground tends to be extremely stable for the most part, even those uneven portions that a tank can't get through.

>Go into a muddy area
>Start to sink
>Use backpack thrusters to pull yourself out of the muck and jump to a more stable area.
That's not very hard, do you even know what a Zaku can do?

>Sniping a Zaku with a tank
A sabot round might be able to pierce a Zaku's armor. But you keep thinking a tank will be able to get close enough to a zaku to fire at point blank range so it couldn't dodge the shot. The tank would be shot to pieces unless the pilot is oblivious, before it could get into range. It might be possible if you're firing on the Zaku if it has it's back turned to you, but you better have a helluva a cannon to fire over a long enough range to get them. And good luck being accurate enough to hit the torso or joints.

You're one dumb nigger if you don't think the Zaku is an excellent blend of firepower, armor and maneuverability.

It's fertile, only engineers and some biologists get exactly how you can't scale up in proportion (radius of leg goes up by the square but the weight goes up by the cube so hold up it's own weight the relative thickness of the legs grows at an expectational rate), a giant mecha would look like a squat as fuck dwarf with the mother of all applebottoms compared to it's puny torso (t-rex arms). Real giant mecha = ugly as sin, and forget about having any heavy armor, the legs are strained enough as it is, it won't be able to move fast, and it would be gangly as fuck, and if it fell down the force of impact would mean it would never get back up. So do a mecha T-rex instead since you need the tail for stability, and put a howitzer on it's head, congrats now you have a gangly walking tank with shit armor and 20 billion different moving parts for your logistics guys to deal with.

Both sides ITT are all autistic fucks precisely because when talking about giant robots in a military setting, realism and physics that accompany said realsim are thrown out the window.

EMP largely doesn't work like in the movies, but modern MBT are drive-my-wire so a neutron bomb or directed EMP effect that could take out a drone would taken out a manned tank.

Military radio signals are designed to be difficult to jam. Improvement in jamming in the near future is likely, but for now it's not that big an issue.

To answer your question, though, it goes to the AI. If you can make a self-driving car you can make a self-driving tank. The military obviously has greater requirements on what they need in an autonomous system, but autonomous weapons are already being used and rich militaries are eager to take the human out.

You say that but the fact is that Space Warfare would be completely different from any kind of warfare that exists on earth, if I can compare it to anything MAYBE it would be a little bit like underwater combat and that's only assuming that your operating in deep space, once you start to deal with gravity fields and shit you open up a whole new can of worms.

Space fighters would probably be pretty useless unless were talking little drones that can be fired en-mass at enemy ships and that's only in close range, a lot of the fighting would be taking place at mind boggling distances apart from each other. Its pretty crazy stuff.

But you need to focus it on one spot to make sure it's effective unless you've entered the sci fi level of where it's just a solid beam of energy.

With current tech, all a jet would have to do is move around erratically to keep the laser from eating up the same spot. Of course it would still build up heat, But it would buy the plane much more time to target and destroy the ground laser.
