I'm not 100% sure or anything but from what we've seen, turning the instructor into a villain would make a lot of sense (though I have no idea what the link between her and the rats will be) and would be a real boost to the plot. If anything, having a scene with her in this latest episode makes me a little more confident. Why else would they keep making such a completely minor character appear? It would have been so easy to have given her red eyes in the first episode but they made a point of having not done so.

A staff should priorities what they have to do to make the story work best. In this case fleshing out Moka's character at the start would have been the right thing to do. Sort of like how Urobuchi gave Mami three episodes before killing her off. If he killed her in the first episode, it wouldn't have nearly the same emotional punch, and it would have been harder to empathize with Madoka's suffering afterwards.

What is just ridiculous is how eyeball mk.1 powered Type 93 director was able to allow Tama to direct the 10cm to counter a volley from the 46cm gun. If this is done using modern FCS, then I can understand, but that's not the case here!

They cannot be using a stock type 93 director. It required a crew of 7 to operate first of all and here Tama is operating it by herself. Also the turrets are unmanned now and the Type 93 was a follow the pointers aiming system not a remote power control system.
So a modern digital FCS has been installed, and once you have done that you can shoot down incoming missiles or missile sized artillery projectiles.

It looks like Yokosuka is suppressing information at that. Maizuru doesn't have much info on what's going on at that.
About the whole situation with the mutiny though. Furushou ordering the strike and just how much she knows is somewhat questionable.
This doesn't explain why the Sarushima sank. That LCS isn't likely to go down under if just the port hull's been compromised even if the training torpedo did such damage. The only possibilities are still sabotage or if they've been met with a live torpedo.

Anyone else getting really fed up with the 12 minute SoL / 12 minute action episode structure? I understand that we can't solve the plot in four episodes, but the more episodes I see the more I feel that the studio was thinking hard how to pad it out just a couple of minutes more so there's no need to take a narrative step forward. It's like a storytelling cockblocking every episode.

They're ASROCs; Anti-Submarine ROCkets. Idea being, if a 2sneaky4u sub pops up on Sonar within it's ~12nm range, instead of having to task one of your ASW birds to go take care of it, which takes time and necessitates rearming said helicopter, you can just drop a torpedo directly on his head and let nature take it's course. As such, the ASROC comes in two main varieties; topped with a Mk46 torpedo and a Mk54 torpedo; the principal difference between these are the 54 has better guidance, but higher unit cost, and is only used by America and the Aussies and Poo-in-a-loos, who bought a few. The 46, on the other hand is the NATO standard for lightweight ASW torpedos. This is a long way of saying both have a warhead of slightly south of 100 pounds of what is basically RDX; it's not doing shit to the belt armor of a battleship.

It's all down to programming, really. I don't think there's anything stopping you from targeting it at a point, but there really isn't a point. You'd have to change how the guidance system is hardcoded into the targeting system, which by standard just tracks towards center-of-mass for the best chance to hit, and you would now only be able to use it against one specific type of ship.
