Did you enjoy the show and want a second season? Yes? Then there will be no second season. Simple.

Gainax and Trigger have both responded positively to the idea of a second season (or at least I've heard that Gainax also has), saying things like "how do you know it won't happen?"

Everyone involved seems to be pretty busy through the rest of this decade, so if it is going to happen it most likely won't be for a few years.
