The character interactions are the only reason to watch and that's what you're throwing out if you remove the fujobait. All you'd be left with is pure concentrated shounenshit, Naruto on a volleyball court.

Just because fujos flocked to it willingly out of being thirsty as fuck for thigh game doesn't mean they were deliberately baited. As sports anime goes, this barely even registers as fujocentric without spot-welding goggles on.

I'll be honest the first few episodes oif Haikyu that focus on Kageyama and Hinata are kind of lame
Those two are total dumbasses and are only worthwhile as characters when they're surrounded by people who point that out. Their very serious painfully earnest volleyball drama from early on almost made me bail out
thankfully it didn't take that long to get good and once it did it was pretty great
