Despite the death flags, for some reason I still don't think she's going to die. I just get the feeling Kubo has no idea how to kill the Gotei 13/Team Kurosaki or atleast can't bring himself to. What, there's only been 3 confirmed deaths so far in this whole arc? Byakuya got completely fucked up in the first day, Kira got half his torso blown off and Hitsugaya was even zombified. Orihime isn't entirely useless, to be fair, but she's not suited for combat and has always been on the sidelines. Rukia is a warrior like any other Shinigami and actually risks her life by fighting on the front lines.
Rukia is his connection, Orihime is his motivation. Rukia has received more allusions to being a mutual love interest, while Orihime has solidified her position as an unrequited one. It is what it is.
