I'm not really into idols in general as a concept for anime, but I found both Idolm@ster anime were very well done, just as anime in general regardless of the drama. I mean, yeah, the girls are cute and everything and that's great, but the main draw is the way they interact and develop. The characters are interesting and especially in Cinderella Girls the story is good.
So is LL like that too? Or is the main draw the cuteness of the girls? I don't have a problem if that's what it is, I'm just asking.

It's all a matter of characterization. I cared about individual members of 765 and 346, but I cared about muse as a unit. Everyone has a favorite (I'm a rinfag) but I liked muse together more than on their own, so the story was more enjoyable for me. The ending and movie pissed me off because of how stupid they were about staying together, but they were still far more emotional. I think cg sort of did this with shimamu/mio/shiburin, but I honestly couldn't give a shit about the rest of the girls as a group. If you got an arc, great for you. If you didn't, you basically weren't even a character and thus it was impossible to care. Despite that, I'm a fredericafag.

Whereas Idolm@ster originated as a Japan-only 360 game. Being on Xbox in Japan was always going to hurt its popularity. The anime they spawned, while good, are still based on the original games. Idolm@ster, for all I know, seems to be sticking to their original otaku fanbase.
