For me it was pic related, pretty good but also quite a disappointment.
Gurren Lagann. It had everything I could hope for in a super robot show, but fell flat because the only good character dies early in the show.
Madoka. For a series that was hyped so much, it was so bad; there was nothing to it but the plot twists.

We knew everything good was going to happen in the second and third movies, and I had adjusted my hype and expectations appropriately. Still, after years of "Kizu fucking when", part 1 was just boring.
The higher budget meant it looked funny, too.
Huge expectation ruins everything. I always expect a shitty anime every time /a/ recommend me anyting.
