Friendly rivalries are a common thing in shounen, like going from enemies to allies to sort of friends like Goku and Vegeta, or being friends from the start but having a rivalry, like Natsu and Gray.
But there seem to be few female characters with a relationship like that. I can only think of Misaka and Misaki in Railgun. Do you know any others? Preferrably not for liking the same guy like Sakura and Ino, that was really lame.

From what I read I didn't know that, but at least there's much more to it. In the festival story I don't remember that being brought at all and there's a solid friendly rivalry development.

That's so stupid that it's almost painful. On the one hand without the project she'd never have Dolly as a friend either. And on the other hand, blaming a seven year old with no parent or guardian around for agreeing to let a doctor take a cheek swab because he said it would help a lot of children who are sick and dying is genuinely absurd.
