It wasn't "turned" into anything different than it was from the start, it was the writer's intention from the beginning to end it that way.
This whole manga could be summarized as: "the story of a girl who is raised by her future husband from childhood."
Then whether you like it or not is another matter. Personally I would have appreciate it more if there were more signs from Daikichi that he grew romantic feelings about Rin as she grew up. Instead it almost looked as if he just accepted to marry her just because she wanted it and he couldn't say no to his daughter.
