What is the best case and why is it 1-4?
>>
And a question to Mayafags
why didn't she try to help Phoenix and heal him when he lost his badge and became a hobo?
>>
1-4 may be the most thrilling and "epic", but 1-5 story and contents are the best of the serie.
>>
Is this from an old PV?
>>
>>140813966
And do what exactly?
Make his a spirit medium servant in training, get paid in gruel and sharp rocks?
>>
>>140814622
The extra DS chapter was surprisingly solid. Not only it gave us Ema, the Police Chief was a really tough opponent and everything had a real sense of urgency.
>>
>>140813966
She's a spirit medium, anon. What could she do other than be there for him? It's established that they kept in contact over the years while she was trying to train as the leader for the village.
>>
>>140813966
He never became a hobo, he was working in the shadows to prepare his Simon Says revenge.
>>
>>140813877
What is the worst adaptation of the season and why is it Gyakuten Saiban?
>>
>>140815542
Well, this, too, but what I liked was the clearly darker tone of the story, "grey-er" situations compared to the usual "good-or-bad" manicheism, and a more mature approach of various ethic and judicial problems (as far as such a game and serie can do, of course, I didn't claim it as a thesis on law philosophy).
>>
>>140813966
She does send him some stuff while he's in the hospital in AJ, it's pretty likely he was in regular contact with her. Since Pearl and Trucy know each other as well it'd be odd if Trucy never met Maya.
She's been "training" or something for years, but I can't give you a real reason she's been off-screen other than that they didn't want to write her into the plot.
>>
>>140817051

>>
>>140813877
why the hell is the artstyle so different????
>>
>>140817068
I am still not sure if you are supposed to play Rise From Ashes after trilogy or after first game. It actually gives us good taste of grey area Apollo Justic tried to explore (alas, with little success). For example, every defendant in AJ is guilty as sin of something, just not murder. Same goes to Lana, Nick even commented how he could not completely clear her up.
>>
>>140817194
It's a fan art. Albeit, it's not like real deal is much better.
>>
honestly thoughts on this series

I feel like the first few episodes have been low effort but i like the way they stay true to the games
>>
>>140817286
I'd play it after AA1. You have to keep in mind that it shares all of that with AJ because it was basically a test run for it.

>>

No.
>>
A-1 was a mistake.
>>
>>140813877
You mean 2-4
>Phoenix literally choosing between the most important person in his life and his life long goal and the mentality of it.
>Literally the victim and perp were heartless monsters
>Edgeworth Rides Again, but is also on your side
>>
>>140817286
First game without a doubt.
It's supposed to lead into Edgeworth questioning the justice system and leaving for a while to find himself and then coming back in 2-4.
>>
2-1
I just love how silly and amazing it is for reintroducing you to the game.
>>
>>140821686
2-1 would be better if the villain wasn't generic irredeemable killer. Would have drove home the theme 2-2 and 2-3 had and made the reveal in 2-4 even better
>>
>>140819522
A-1 is down there with Toei and Pierrot
>>
1-4 and 2-4 are really amazing (Though I have only played the initial trilogy. I really have to replay the trilogy so I can play the following games).

Guys, isn't she supposed to be a little sister/future waifu to him? Just keeping contact with him even though Phoenix was facing his greatest predicament in his life, isn't it a bit too cruel? You'd expect her to come running to Phoenix and support him, heal him and never leave his side or something. Showing him that she is willing to accept him even if he is a hobo as well, offering him to live with her or whatever.

Am I wrong? Or am I missing something here? It felt like Maya just ditched him after he lost his position as a lawyer. Maybe she was disappointed after seeing that she had no chances with him? Still it was pretty cruel.
>>
>>140828762
>>140813966
It's likely Phoenix told her to stay out of it, citing that the village needs her more.
>>
>>140828762
Just ditched? Seven yearsass between TT and AJ. She isn't just Maya, Nick's assistant but Mystic Maya and now leader of her clan. She had responsibilities too and it seems apparent that they kept in touch as much as practical.
Also >>140829003 since I don't think Nick wanted her in the defendant's seat or kidnapped or something again and he tends to be very protective of her.

Most important thing is that AAI2 explains why is some cases actually came into being.
A corrupt as fuck Police Chief.
Von Karma resorting to illegal evidence.
Redd White's influence on everyone.

Then AAI2 comes around telling how the PIC's leader pretty much made the entire justice system into his bitch.
Which adds in nice to Redd White wire tapping everyone for information and blackmail.

Well 6 has Phoenix gallivanting off in another country with Maya while Apollo and the Pokemon trainer hold the fort in Japanifornia, I can see that working. Personally, I think they've gotten 5 and 6 backwards with regards to Nick's status. I think it would make more sense to have him rush off to another country where his badge is meaningless in the game where he doesn't have one, have him go through the whole thing of bringing justice to them and then have Nick come back to law in Japan.

Yes.
It was plainly obvious.
2-2 and 2-3 had killers who WEREN'T just complete monsters who did it because they were horrible people. They were victims as well who were driven over the edge by their quite frankly extreme circumstances.
All this built to that final case and the big reveal which broke the expectation you've built both this game and over the series so far. In the back of you mind you went 'well our defendant is a dudebro idiot so it can't be him. So it must be Adrian who has animosity for both the victim and defendant.'
It was leading you in and then swerved you at the last moment and that's why I fucking love JFA.

It along with 2-3 generally just being a bad, if not the worst, case is black spots on what could have been arguably the best sequel to a game Capcom has made since Megaman 2.
2-2 is good for being the best case of the theme I mentioned because frankly as we saw the Victim was kind of egocentric dick borderline on malpractice. 2-4 as I said is probably the best of the trilogy if not the entire franchise.

And somehow the 'Maya is accused of a murder she didn't commit' thing still felt kind of fresh despite having been the topic of 1-2, probably because this time around Maya was a character you were attached to rather than just a cute girl you had to defend.
>>
>>140836914
Well it helped that this time the scenario was more 'how do I prove her innocence in this extreme scenario?'
We knew Redd White did it because they showed us, we knew why Mia was murdered. 2-2 gave us an actual puzzle to solve.
>>140836809
There's more to why 2-3 is bad though.
It has the worst non-killer Witnesses not named Wendy Oldbag, it had moments in the investigation where you are pretty unclear where to go and who to give what to (in fact I think there's a point where the translation fucks it up and actually LIES about evidence to give to someone), the moment with Boppo the Bozo the Clown where you can't get it wrong or INSTANT GAME OVER. Plus the solution also has a some bullshit to it seriously the cape getting around the statue at JUST the right angle to make it look like the Magician did it?
>>
>>140838295
2-2 also gave a very plausible situation for her to be guilty (or at least as guilty as needed for a nip court) and the fact that Maya herself believed she had done it. They did however remove some of the tension by setting it before 2-1, even if it made for a really neat transition
>>
>>140838295
I actually just finished 2-3 yesterday, what was the instant game over with the clown?

You get a hefty penalty (which isn't your full bar if its full) if you press him instead of presenting hard evidence at the contradiction.
>>
>>140829105
>She had responsibilities too
But Phoenix is important to her as well yeah? Phoenix losing his badge is equal to him dying socially yeah? How could it be acceptable for them to say to each other "I will do my best so you should do your best too!!" and keep living their lives just like that. I'd expected Maya to do a lot more than just sending some dvds for a show aimed at kids.

>Nick! How is it going?
>Uh well, I lost my job.
>Oh really? Sorry to heard that, are you alright?
>Well I'm okay, don't worry about me and do your best in your training.
>O-okay. You too Nick!
>>
>>140839841
Didn't both Franzy and Judgey explicitely tell you not to further unecessarily press the clown though?
>>
>>140840016
Meanwhile Edgeworth invited Phoenix over to Europe to help him with cases and he also helped him get his badge back with the bar exam.

Miles x Phoenix is canon, Mayafags on suicide watch.
>>
>>140840143
Well yeah, but come on. who doesn't press every statement just for additional dialogue?
>>
>>140840143
They do, but its not an instant game over if your energy bar is full.

People mostly call it an instant game over because they usually have been penalized earlier before they get to that "instant game over" bit. 2-4 is the case where you can get instant game overs (full bar gets destroyed if you make one error).
>>
>>140838724

Well I will admit it's been a few years since I played JFA so there are some details I may have been rusty on. I do remember it was a harsh penalty and you had to be perfect.
Still you can't deny there are a lot of parts to 2-3 that are outright annoying from both story AND gameplay.
Hell as much as I praise 2-4 I will admit there are some leaps in logic that may bog it down and of course Wendy Oldbag is there to be the most universally hated Witness of all time again.
>>
>>140841437
Understandable. There's also another harsher penalty near the end of 2-3 where the judge slams down a 90% penalty if you accuse him of hiding the murder weapon.

If you took out the clown in 2-3 it'd probably make the case a little more bearable.
>>
Do people really like 1-5? It was by far the worst case in the entire series. There were some cool concepts but all of the characters central to it were annoying as fuck. It drags like hell too. There's all these tangents that don't end up mattering at all. At least in stuff like 1-4 there's a reason for another case to be brought up. In 1-5 all of the "same guy murdered at the same time in different places" shit was filler. I don't even know how they could claim there was a second murder in the evidence room in the first place considering how there was no fucking dead body to begin with. So why bother?

The writing is awful, it's peppered with flashbacks that we really don't need, and a ton of the dialogue constantly retreads what we already know in the case. It could've been half the length it was if they had cut that. Also, from a gameplay standpoint, all of the gimmicks are annoying more than they are fun or interesting. There's so much bullshit pixel hunting.

Also, you get like 50 pieces of evidence for no reason. It's because the case is overly long and convoluted for no fucking reason.

In conclusion your Honor, I hate 1-5 and I'm super salty about people saying it was good.
>>
>>140840968
Phoenix chose his fucking profession for the sake of Edgeworth.
And he is now dumping everything and flying to another country because he heard screams over the phone for Maya.
It's fine
>>
>>140841437
I remember Franziska havine some 50% penalties along JFA. Never bothered me, as they were either obvious, or at qa point where you hadn't had yet enough options to get under 50% remaining... uhm...

what do we call that bar anyway?

Bluffness?
>>
>>140841765
>I don't even know how they could claim there was a second murder in the evidence room in the first place considering how there was no fucking dead body to begin with. So why bother?

That was Gant's whole plan.
The moment they proved Goodman could not have possibly be murdered there, he could have only been stabbed by Skye in the parking lot.
Not hard to get.

I could point out why the rest of your complaints are also off-base, but perhaps I should not deprive you from your salt intake
>>
>>140841941
>That was Gant's whole plan.
To claim there was a murder with no body?

And then nobody in the police department questioned this and acted as if there was a murder?

I know they're incompetent, but there's a point where incompetence just becomes bad writing. If it's funny/entertaining incompetence then sure, but if it's annoyingly stupid and destroys your suspension of disbelief with how stupid it is, then it's awful.

That entire part of the case could've been cut out and nobody would have noticed anything was even missing.

Fuck you.
>>
>>140842050

The point is that I wanted to see some selfless, fitting to a good heroine, behaviors when the hero was in a pinch.

The whole second room thing is pretty egregious imo. There's a fuckload of other problems with it too that sap the fun out of the case. The annoying "buhh this is a DS game are you getting it yet?" features (fingerprinting, pixel hunting for blood, rotating shit and trying to find the exact angle to look at something [FUCK that pot]) are well, annoying. There are a couple of logical leaps the player has to make as well; but frankly the worst thing was just how fucking repetitive it was; characters restate over and over implications from evidence and testimony; I think Phoenix is like "buhh is Gant threatening Lana?" like three times with the same amount of surprise each time. I know Phoenix isn't bright, but it got ridiculous, especially in trials where characters recapitulated what happened in detail, complete with flashbacks fairly often. It really made the case drag like hell. There is way too much evidence that rather than being discarded regularly, Phoenix just holds onto like a crazy white woman on Hoarders, so trying to determine which piece of evidence or even locating it in your inventory was a chore.

To that guy who was like, "duh the case really explores ethics in a mature way": you're fucking retarded. Manipulating evidence is shown to be through and through a shitty thing (Lana only faked evidence because Gant faked evidence that her kid sister killed a guy [as if a minor can he convicted of murder on self-defense charges lel], so if there was no fucking around, nothing would have come of it), Gant's special privileges only highlight how corrupt the police are, making him a cartoon villain (which is fine, it's AA; who gives a fuck, just don't pretend he was anything but). The only "good" ethically dubious thing is Phoenix nicking the stuff in the safe, and it's not like we haven't stolen evidence before (thanks mainly to Maya's bad influence).

Not the guy you replied to btw, just my onion.

Is /a/ really so autistic that they think that friendship only exists through obligation or something? Christ.

Not even mentioning the fact that a) Maya had shit on her own plate b) she sends Pearl to help him out c) she could really have came to his aid after being disbarred (which happened before AA4 begins) and we don't know whether she visits him or not and d) Phoenix does okay sort of after his disbarment and gets a new job, so I don't think this image of "Phoenix was destitute and only Maya could save him" really makes any sense or is relevant to the chunk of time we see in the AA4 game.

Mate, it's not about obligations but helping the one you are considering as a family. I don't think you would find it unreasonable if Maya wanted to help out Phoenix as much as she can when he needs it, just like he did when it was her that needed help, no?
You would to come running to your family to help if they ever needed it right? Even if you had some things you had to do.
Having responsibilities is fine but family is come first, always. At least that is what I'm thinking. That's why I wanted to see Maya doing more for Phoenix.
Unless it was Phoenix explaining things to her andasking her leave everything to him and stay out of this, I find it weird that Maya was only minding her own business and didn't actively do anything to help Phoenix.
