The worst thing about her is she throws so much love to Sasuke to the point it's her entire character, yet she is very insignificant in Sasuke's life and she could never hope to sway him. He will never care about her as much about her as he does for Itachi and Naruto. She is the eternal second fiddle, the unnecessary third wheel, and she is perfectly okay with that.
While it might give the readers get second hand embarrassment, at least she seems happy with her lot in life.

Kishimoto just couldn't break through the roadblock of Sasuke and Naruto with her. Her entire character revolves around them, mostly the former. She took a step in the right direction with the super strength and for a second I even thought she might start being useful, learn some taijutsu, and become a functioning member of the team. Instead she spends most of the manga doing jack shit, which is only worsened by the fact that now we KNOW she can hold her own and she just doesn't anymore, rather than her being inept like pre-timeskip.

basically this. Dude had no idea how to make her relevant beyond the initial "omg, sasuke-kun" deal. Her character doesn't do a whole lot of growth outside of a few jarringly obvious attempts to make her relevant. People like shikamaru kind of naturally become more relevant as the series goes on. Lee is relevant basically from day one as one of the strongest ninja (even though he kind of gets forgotten as of shippuden). Sakura's "development" is pretty shitty and she never really has any purpose other than the original. But I guess that still beats Naruto's continual decay as a valid character. The virtues of hard work, creativity, and becoming your own person are left behind for god bloodline ninja jesus horseshit. fuck there is a lot to hate about naruto as a story.

Honestly I think that was a big part of her problem more than a solution. Sakura's super strength is impressive but, in the context of the series, it was doomed from the beginning. The storytelling problem you have with a power like superhuman strength is that the chances of you connecting a hit with a major character is inversely proportional to how many hits it will take for you to kill them. Sakura, who can kill practically anybody in the series in one hit, is therefore never going to actually hit anybody.
She would've been way better off focusing entirely on medical ninjutsu and genjutsu than gaining a power like that. Then she could have contributed to battles in a way which wouldn't remove dramatic tension or end the fight instantly in one blow.

Technically, Jiraiya and the co were supposed to be failed versions of the characters from The Tale of Jiraiya the gallant and Naruto and co were supposed to fix the mistakes of the past generation. Kishimoto's Sakura is just a glaring example of the problem a lot of amateurish Japanese writers have when trying to write female characters and they come off as seemingly written by a teenager who only thinks of them as tokens, and they constantly fail the Bechdel test because a girl character always has to be tagged along to a male character in some way, instead of be more independent of that kind of thing. The sad thing is, they don't see why this is such beginner level writing, and pass it off as "that's just what girls do".

Fought Pain, Kakuzu (sure Naruto got the kill in both of them but they were still central fights he largely took part in), Obito, fought Zabuza twice, and did a lot of support int he last few arcs like the mass edo tensei arc and fending off Obito. He even taught Naruto how to literally cheat in training by making his clones gain experience for him, is the reason why Sasuke even uses lightning so effectively, and a good tactician.

You should really read Time Braid. It's one of those stories that takes a character's potential and just runs with it.
Every time I watched Naruto, or read the Manga, I felt exactly like you. I just wanted her to be good. I wanted her to be better written. It's not even that hard. All you have to do is treat her like any other character instead of "the girl". You'd never see this problem if she had a dick. I've never seen a guy character shafted like this.
But that's why I loved Time Braid. It took a character who I liked the idea of, and didn't gimp her.
That's something that pisses me off in a lot of writing. You see tons of potential, but the writers handicap the characters so they can have some hackneyed drama. Suddenly characters become idiots because if they were competent, the bullshit scenario set up for them would be solved too quickly.
It's seriously not to hard to make more difficult scenarios that competent characters still struggle to solve.
