Robert Rodriguez's Battle Angel Alita Will Soon Have Its Leading Lady.
Six months ago, James Cameron passed the torch for his adaptation of Battle Angel Alita to director Robert Rodriguez. Since then, we haven’t heard much about this long-delayed anime adaptation. But we’ve just gotten a significant update: three actresses are in the running to play the lead character.
That hero is female cyborg who is found by a scientist in a landfill, who is then trained to be an assassin. According to the Hollywood Reporter Zendaya (Disney Channel, Spider-Man: Homecoming) is currently the front runner for the role, but fellow actresses Maika Monroe (It Follows, Independence Day Resurgence) and Rosa Salazar (The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials) are still in the running too.
Another issue currently facing the movie, which will be released by 20th Century Fox, is budget. Right now, The Hollywood Reporter says Rodriguez’s film could cost between $175 and $200 million. The studio wants to cut that way down before they give it the greenlight.

Well, I just looked at the director and he seems to have worked on all the Spy Kids and Machete movies and I remember them being generally fun while having a incredibly small budget so maybe you're right and it can actually work since Gunnm doesn't need all that much special effects that cannot be faked with a suit
