Gen IV was pretty decent, but gen 5 and 6 are still a huge mess due to the rushed development cycles of the recent games.

I felt that currently the author is too converged toward the game's plot. Back then when pokemon game doesn't have much plot nor characterization he has more freedom in writing shit up (some gym leaders are villains etc.) now that pokemon game already has characterization and plot he basically just deliver a retelling of game.

An expansion of the characters from old arc, really there's not much that can be done about remakes, FRLG was the same, just a shorter side-story that lead into Emerald, which was also shorter
Why was RS the best arc?Personally, I really liked the whole Ruby/Norman thing. That rainy fight on the weather institute was badass. Plus the romantic stuff was nice, too.

The villains are also great. In the base game, Archie and Maxie are kind of retard who somehow think their destructive plan is good for planet. In manga however they are complete sociopath (Archie in particular) which explain why their plan are so destructive. I love how in final they decide to kill everyone include their underlings just so they could play creator gods at the end of the world.
Also Manga Courtney is the best female villain in the whole franchise. Even the ORAS game sort of borrow her concept.

I swear, that fight with Wally in ORAS was one of the greatest moments in the franchise for me. Even if his theme was a 36-second loop, it was cool as hell and charged with emotion. Seeing the protege you've helped become a real man was great, and that music together with that battlefield made every blow feel more powerful than anything up to that point, even if you've seen the moves a dozen times.
Shame it was so easy, like the rest of the game. I actually reset my game to before fighting him just so I could try to make it a bit harder for myself and not be such a blowout.
Battles could be more exciting, I think. A number of the protagonists are touted as great battlers, but their tactics and skills aren't very interesting to watch.

It was killed by yearly releases. Its impossible for the author to keep up or get creative now, I can't really blame him. Working with a longer manga format for Pokemon sounds horrible.

The easter egg bothered me a little since it fucks up the timeline.
We know that RBG -> GSC -> RS -> FRLG -> Emerald -> HGSS and ORAS at the same time, going by various info. XY seems to take place at the same time as ORAS as well, judging by how Red, Blue, Green, and Mewtwo are appearing in both. Yet Mega Evolution is completely unheard of by the time of the other arcs.

Adventures Red was powerful in the first two arcs, got shafted somewhat in FRLG with no obvious battle development, and got cameos in Emerald and ORAS to use a powerful combo attack/job, respectively.
Game Red is canonically a prodigy and is on the same level as the other champions at least, but we don't know anything much about him besides that.
Ash leveled up slowly throughout the series, hit his peak in D/P, hit his head and became mentally retarded throughout BW, and has actually become almost as competent as DP in XY currently.
Origins Red was literally that one kid who only uses his starter and only wins because of suckish AI.

Battle Frontier is canon though, the Frontier Brains have received references even outside the facility.
PWT doesn't have anything that makes it decisively canon, but there's no reason to assume it isn't. Cynthia mentions the idea in the original BW.
