Historia's development has become the balance between the two most important people in her life, Ymir and Frieda. With Frieda being dead, Eren has essentially taken over her role, which is strictly platonic despite all the siscon memers.
All of the direct references to any potential romance between them has been played off for humor with Mikasa's reactions. This is a clear implementation of the trope where the girl that loves the guy misunderstands his relationship with another girl and gets jealous. Happens all the time in fiction.

Eren spoke to Historia during the political arc to put the idea that she is actually a good person, despite how awful she was going to act on the cave. So Isayama making the MC deliver the "this person is not bad", was actually made to prepare Historia to the readers.
Also, the paralles are setted in the fact both kids were used by their parents, and not were meant to be the chosen ones, but the extra one when the main died or broke a leg. And both handled this reality in their own ways. Historia stopped trying to seek the approval of everyone, and Eren stopped his MC complex.
The curious thing is they helped each other but they didn't participate on this changes directly.

Her skills aren't just physical though she developed SL's weapons to use against FT and AT differently and made a lot of useful scientific discovery. Besides that she had good skills to gain information from different types of people too. It's not just gaining information actually she is capable of developing good relations with people.
