Because a "good harem" is literally the definition of a harem: a bunch of concubines gathered together for some rich guy to bang whenever he wants.
Calling a tangle of cardboard cutouts with no personality beyond the feelings they have for the MC a "harem" does a disservice to the history of the term.
I think the only way a harem could conceivably be done in a "good way" is the struggles of a guy with more than one girlfriend. The unrequited beta orbiter bullshit needs to stop.
