I wanted to get into this, but i've heard that anime is shit, so im gonna read the vn, how much is it related to higurashi ? Is it viable to read it without reading higurashi ? Is the translation finished ?

I've been feeling a reread of the VN but don't know if I want to spend that much time rereading it. I've heard the manga is good so I'm considering reading that instead but I'm worried I won't enjoy it as much without the music. Is the manga still enjoyable as a reread if I won't get to experience bgm/voices?

Tangentially. Two of the characters introduced half-way through are based off of characters from higurashi.
