there's all kinds of story in it. it's just nonlinear. bear in mind that some people around these parts can only enjoy anime where every time some character mentions something there's a flashback to a line spoken in a previous episode to make sure all the dots are connected.
if you could follow, say, inception or eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, you'll probably view it as less "mindfuck" and more "creative storytelling"

You do realize that I can just add "again" to the end of your point and it becomes basically the same as mine, right? I'd wager there are tons of people on /a/ who discussed Lain at some point but don't want to discuss it right now, because they saw it ages ago and discussed it already and don't have anything they'd want out of a Lain thread at the moment. Just because certain things get discussed for a long time doesn't mean everything you ever discuss is something you're going to discuss over and over. And most of the things that are eternally discussed are being sustained by specific arguments that people will never let go of (Monogatari has girl rankings and shitflinging, NGE has Rei vs Asuka and also somehow an endless stream of idiots who don't understand it or at least claim not to, Madoka has did-Homura-do-something-wrong and are-they-gay, etc.), which Lain doesn't have.
