The tone of the series changes drastically about midway through Part 2, and then ramps it up once Stands are introduced.
Part 1 simply sets up the background and foundation that later devolves into complete insanity.

The only real downside of the manga is the quality of the scans, no one has bothered to go back and rescan the older chapters and most are very poor quality.
Note that was my experience a few years ago so that may have changed.

JoJo is phenomenal. It's also incredibly poorly written, so poor that you can be spoilered 4 parts ahead and it really doesn't matter. You don't watch/read it for the plot, you watch it for its amazing characters and unique style. Anyone who claims spoilers matter or says the writing is clever is an autist who probably thinks sonic has a deep emotional, plot as well. Just turn your brain off at the start of every episode and start posing, it really becomes a fun ride after that, trust me anon.

The final stretch was a mess, like Araki changed his mind 10 times while writing where he wanted to go with it.

It's Pollnareffs Bizarre Adventure all over again but with Mista. Not that this is a bad thing but it's another reason why Goirno leaves no impression as a character.
Fugo leaves the group never to be heard of again and we only saw his stand once.
I will say this though, Giornos Stand allowed some of the most gruesome and exciting fights in the whole series.

I don't think the Parts need to have a deeper relation to the overall story of the manga. If so, Part 2 is also kind of pointless, it just explains where the stone mask came from, and nothing else in it relates to other parts.
So yes, Part 5 relevance to the other parts is explaining the Stand Arrows origin.
Other than that it just does it's own things to varying degrees of success.
