Why do some people get all defensive when you tell them to read

Why do some people get all defensive when you tell them to read the manga, like they have to defend the anime's honor or something?
Certain people which I shall not explicitly name hate reading.
They aren't defending their anime, they're defending their own laziness
Because reading is hard, even if they're just comics.

But they'd still need to read the subtitles even if they watched the anime.

Moving pictures make it easier, and anime generally has less lines of text than a manga chapter.

The same reason why manga-anons get all buttfrustrated when you tell them that the anime has elements that a mere comic will never have. ie. sound and movement, and in most manga cases, colour.

I'm kinda glad that color is a rare occurrence for manga. Mainly in that I don't want them to end up like capeshit comics and just have color for the sake of it.
