It looks great, and DP is a good choice. The character design looks a lot like Komatsu Eiji's art, which is a lot more accurate than what PA Works or KyoAni would have done since they're so locked into their own in-house art styles.
You can trust David to leave the story mostly untainted as well.

The worst thing for Planetarian would be a director who is too distinct and creative, like Shinbou or Kawamori who would put too many of their own eccentricities into the work.
With the current staff it's going to be a nearly 1:1 adaptation, and since the VN is very short and simple, it can easily be carried over to animation.
