But there were some serious oversights in the way the SAT team operated that cause me to not really be happy with how it played out. Namely that highly trained operators didn't react to a random drone that just appears in front of them in what's supposed to be a secure position. Did none of them piece together that the only thing capable of taking out their sniper teams was an Ajin? And why wouldn't they all immediately react to try and shoot Satou from any angle they had available within the ground team? "Don't shoot!" really? They have no other way to shoot around him?

In the anime that was changed to something that looked like an m4a1 carbine and that would have penetrated.

How and when? By who? They had a plan to shoot him in the head every time he started reviving and to move him to a vehicle. That plan wasn't something that was even supposed to happen in the first place. They did not *expect* Satou to actually take out Grant Pharmaceutical, nor did they know how he would do it in either the manga or the anime. Nobody knew what he would have on him. Nobody knew that he had *any* combat experience or knowledge of weapons whatsoever.
The SATs' orders were to neutralize/subdue Satou. They followed those orders to a T until Gen and Takahashi intervened. When Gen and Takahashi intervened, the phalanx broke and the plan became dynamic. The only people who could have given the order to remove the shotgun were the people who were being shot at by a sniper and under extreme pressure to make sure that an immortal man stays dead. Are you going to ignore the sniper shooting at you to remove a weapon that your prisoner should not be able to use? Are you going to not kill the prisoner in order to subdue him, despite that being your orders? Were they ever trained to do that? Remember: they're an anti-terror, killing team. They do not have experience with corpses getting back up. Even if there was no pressure on them, removing the shotgun would not immediately come to mind as a priority.
We all have the omniscient perspective of readers. We have far more time to analyze the situation, how it was approached, etc than the actual characters do; and we also have significantly greater information about the entire circumstance than the actual characters do. If you want to go the "lol why didnt they take his shotgun" route, why can I not take the "lol why didnt satou just shoot them the instant he saw them, that would save half the time and effort"?

Uh no, standard procedure to neutralise a target is to disarm them. They were in a situation where they were dealing with someone who their weapons could not kill, so in effect they had non-lethal weapons, and so the procedure would have been to remove the target's lethal weaponry.
At the VERY least they should have shot the shotgun if they couldn't remove it just to disable its functionality. There might have been ricochets but they're dealing with the most dangerous person on the planet anyway, you need to take risks like that.

If an ajin had a machete they could slide off their arm, then cut their throat, then have arm for dinner. Dehydration would only be a problem if you don't like drinking blood. Bleed yourself dry into a bucket, then when you die and come back you have something to drink.
