It's garbage with terrible writing, shallow characters, a mess of a plot, and pretty decent music.
It's been years since I watched it, but the scene with the puppy comes to mind as a prime example of just how fucking awful the writing was. See? This terrible bitch that slaughters people like nothing had a sad childhood, so you should empathize with her!
Not to mention the fucking absurdity of the violence. Perfect example of blood pinatas. The violence loses all impact by the end of the first episode so their attempts to up the ante are fucking hilarious.
The worst part is, I actually did read the manga as well, and if you think the show is bad, you have no fucking idea. The plot is such a stupid goddamn mess, and most of the characters boil down to fetish pandering. (When they introduced the bitch who needed a diaper, I was so close to dropping it, but I needed to finish it for the sake of closure, of which there is none.)
