The reason I mentioned the main girl is because she's pretty much a mouthpiece for the narrative that's being pushed. That's how it seems based on the first episode, anyway. Hopefully that changes.

Honestly, I think that Dazai's constant talk of suicide, it's just a cover for his true intentions. I don't believe he hasambitions for the Mafia at all but I firmly believe that he wants to set up his own faction and will abandon them at the soonest convenience to protect them from the consequences of his actions.
At the end of the translated set of chapters I got the feeling that his former allies in the Mafia cared much more about him than he wanted them to and he was disturbed by the fact and was trying to distance himself from them. I think he puts on the cold mask to try and get people to hate him and teaches others to do the same as a way of coping and by them offering their help to him in spite of his reputation it really got to him.
The fact that Dazai slaps Atsushi instead of coddling him as is thematically more appropriate earlier on makes me think that he's going to revert. From what I can see from the Chinese scanlations he's already displaying a more ruthless personality.

You can like this never happens in writing ever. You can say it's forced, but it is not an asspull since the whole thing with the classmate has been a part of the conflict with Ogata and Saya anyway. An asspull is a random bully from Saya's past who never been mentioned before all of sudden shows up.
That said, Hayashida is a fag but I think he has been one of Ogetsu's best written characters from his progression from Sabita Yoru to Hadakeru Kaibatsu and it doesn't try to excuse his abusing on Yumi either.

From my experience, when you look at the works of old (Kazetoki, Ai no Kusabi, A cruel god's reign) and compare them with the cute stuff that ends well we can read nowadays, I think unhealthy relationships are becoming rarer, making place for idealized love stories. Not that I mind, I enjoy these too. But depressing, wicked stuff once in a while is good too.

I think you are mistaken for tragedies than unhealthy relationship, homodachi. A lot of BL still do the rape as drama schtick (which is why I didn't likeEscape Journeymuch even if it started out well and had enough drama without it).
But there is a lot of emotional abusive relationships in BL today. It's a celebration when you do get BL titles that skip all of that shit.
