How can something so underrated be so good?The true AOTY
Less than half of the episodes were actually good.
It had some gem moments but the average was pretty mediocre and the ending fell completely flat.
The best part about it was the soundtrack.

Poor animation in most episodes.

The whole "2 episode arc" format really killed it for me, becasue some arcs for nicely into it while others really had to be stretched, which killed pacing.

This is a dead give away that there were problems.
People really wanted to like it and it started out strong and then it fell to pieces. They started out calling it AOTS and but then a month later it was "it felt like too much of a chore to watch to I moved it to my backlog". Then they forgot about it.

The ending was a disappointment and characters didnt get enough development like I wanted in the end. Still very good, a very strong 7.
Animation, visual style, and soundtrack carries it the entire way though.

For all of its objective flaws in directing, pacing, storytelling, and even animation in some parts, it was still the most charming and enjoyable show of the past year. I never would have thought that character design, art direction, and soundtrack could carry a show but this one sure proved me wrong

I like the character-focused episodic format with the overarching plot unfolding mostly piecemeal in the background. Most of the arcs were enjoyable, definitely picking up steam as it went along, and I didn't feel like it suffered from the mandatory two-parters like some people do. The main cast likable and they all had their place on the team. The world was interesting and colorful, albeit criminally under-explored, and the visuals were generally great despite the occasional quality.
Also the esteemed award for best use of cute girls covering punk rock to accompany the climax in a chinese cartoon.
It was good.
