I personally prioritise airing over backlog, otherwise the backlog will get larger from shows I want to watch from current season.
Sort of like sealing a dam.
If it's a series I'm super interested in or planning to marathon obviously takes priority over airing shows, but I'd still usually make I get through any aired episodes thus far in the week before moving on to backlog.
Why don't you delete all these shows that you apparently won't watch?
