This episode was literally a big infodump, except the edgy last minute. How edgy can you get? Esdeath with a neck scar and everyone with wrist scars. Atleast the OP was good.

I know Trigger says that they're trying to make a more drama-based anime this time around, but i'm pretty sure that the world peace through wounds thing is bullshit. I think the pacing will be a bit slower and there will be less action but we will definitely get it.
It's more likely (because this is a Trigger anime) that they're all being bound together to share wounds and divide pain so that they can defeat the big bad that's lurking around the corner and making the people in the town disappear. It would also not surprise me that as they become more empathetic with one another and open up (the goal of the kizuna system), that they unlock gurren-esque powers and the system is enhanced. They'll struggle with this shit for the first few episodes but breakthroughs will happen and the real purpose of the system will be revealed.
The heroes will then go "WE DIDNT ASK FOR THIS" but do it anyways and then we'll get the over the top action sequences that Trigger is known for.

There are shows people actually like and have chill threads. This isn't one of them though, it was fated never to be basically because few if any wanted Trigger to make Mekaku wannabe by Okada. It's notable that Trigger's other show this season, which is far closer to fitting the bill of what we might expect/want out of them, is much better-received than this has been so far.

Thinking on how it would affect a global scale will detract from the show's current message (the message of empathy/ artificial empathy) and its the shows current weakness seeing as how some anon's are explaining their disapproval of it. But I also think that they should not focus on the global scale, even though it is the premise of the kiznaiver project.
The whole premise and concept behind the kiznaiver is just a plot device to connect these characters to one another for the drama we really want
